closed/locked doors on zone entry

Postby Lennya » Mon Sep 10, 2018 11:34 pm

Something that's been bugging me since forever:

If the exit between two zones is flagged as a door, and this door is saved closed on init, then opening it from zone A and moving into zone B will result in the door being closed from B > A, but open from A > B.
example: the entrance to Menzoberranzan

It's even worse when the door is saved as locked and has a scrapping key; In zone A you unlock the door which breaks the key, open it, enter into the new zone, and find yourself locked into zone B.
example: Assassin Mountain

If you're bored :)

Yes. This is probably very difficult to fix code-wise, but could be fixed in build.
Both rooms would need to be within the same zone for doors to work correctly.

Are you volunteering?

Can you make the door from zone B closed, but no key?
Issue is someone can sit afk character in zone B and unlock every repop.
Interesting.
I know menzo's entrance through the bark is one way to get in, but there are a few more.
Would leaving menzo's "exit" back to the connector zone open cause any real problems? As long as all the mobs are stay zone.

Elements 1 and 2 are kinda weird. I don't know if this pertains.

Or we gotta whip up a proc or something for that one door for menzo.

I don't know. Just throwing out ideas.

I think the easiest 'fix' would be to insert one room in between the zone entrance/exit and the door.

But I can see why builders built it the way they did, and this patching up might not agree with their ideas.
